Due to lack of entry’s this event have been cancelled and anyone that paid an entry will be fully refunded

This special event has been designed to give Traditional Archers an opportunity to shoot styles of archery practiced in Japan, Korea, Bhutan, Mongolia and Indonesian Archery.

Most of the targets will be at much longer distances than traditional western archery.

Rather than shooting individually, archers will be asked to form teams (6-8 people depending on entries) to compete against other teams. Some Asian archery is done this way with team members cheering on their own team while lightheartedly “sledging” other teams.

Good shots are celebrated with cheering and dancing. This is encouraged and points awarded for style and enthusiasm.

Japanese Archery at this event will be two (2) flights of six arrows, over a distance of approximately 20 metres with the target being a standard Japanese fan with a red score zone of 50mm diameter.  An easy one to start!

Korean Archery at this event will consist of two (2) flights of six arrows, over a distance of approximately 145 metres for adults (50 metres for juniors or those using lighter bows) with the target being large with a primary score zone of 990mm diameter and a secondary score zone 300mm x 1300mm.  Not so easy!

Mongolian Archery at this event will consist of two (2) flights of six arrows, over a distance of approximately 30 metres to three (3) suspended targets in a fan layout from a stationary “simulated horse”. The targets are approximately 500mm square with a score zone of 300mm diameter. Easier than on a moving horse!

Bhutanese Archery at this event will consist of two (2) flights of six arrows, over a distance of approximately 70 metres for adults (35 metres for juniors or those using lighter bows) with the target being about the size of a small surf board with a score zone of approximately 300mm diameter.  Again not so easy!

Indonesian Archery at this event will consist of two (2) flights of six arrows, over a distance of approximately 20 meters from a sitting position, with the target being a dowel approximately 450mm in length suspended from a rope. This is usually a sport for women and girls of the tribe, but I am sure that it will be difficult for all of us.

So there you have it, why not come and join us for something a bit different? The event is open to all Tradition style of bows and restricted to wooden arrows only.

If you have an Asian Bow then why not challenge yourself to shoot Asian style. If you want to really get into the spirit why not dress Asian as well. Get on the web and research your costume.
